Delicious Fresh Produce and great food at Plymouth’s Pound Kitchen
After all the recent buzz around Plymouth’s newest food retailer, I popped in to the Pound Kitchen in Frankfort Gate on Thursday afternoon to see it for myself. A the wonderful array of fresh and packaged produce and a warm welcome from behind the counter meant it didn’t take much to get me through the door! With grapes, fresh eggs, hot pasties, coffee and more biscuits than you could shake a stick at, there is certainly a lot on offer. And what is more, they not only provide their stock at reduced prices but they also have a basket set up inside to where generous customers can purchase food which will then be donated to the Plymouth Food Bank.
Plymouth City Council leader Cllr Tudor Evans commented “I had the great honour of cutting the ribbon at the official opening of Pound Kitchen today (31st August 2018) . What a fantastic idea and well done to the big-hearted businesses behind it”
Tony Spreadborough, Director of Tamar Fresh and co-owner of Pound Kitchen, alongside Dave Barrett, told me: “We’ve been delighted with the support we’ve had from Plymouth and all the good wishes and recommendations. Our concept is simple – reduce what would go to waste by upcycling it into tasty, extremely affordable food and drink. We strive to get the best possible deals for our customers – plus we reckon we do the best value freshly ground coffee in Plymouth!”
