M&S is launching a six-week campaign to support British farmers.
Committing to British farmers
The campaign includes documenting and interviewing farmers by ‘farmer cam’ to shed light on what goes behind the scenes and further showcase British products across its stores.
This is part of a wider push to reassert its commitment to sourcing from nearly 10,000 British farmers.
Stuart Machin, Managing Director of M&S food highlighted a range of initiative to tackle the challenges faced by the agriculture sector as a result of the decline in the hospitality industry by almost 60%.
These initiatives include:
- Paying a fair price for milk through its Milk Pledge and continuing to purchase the committed volume regardless of customer demand. M&S claims to pay its farmers for milk more than any other retailer
- Launching 100% British meat food boxes which include a variety of M&S Select Farms meat
- Introducing bedding plants to 200 of its Foodhalls and online
- Committing to sell 100% British lamb by June this year and continue to expand on its range of 100% British sourced products
M&S is one of many retailers boosting its support for British farmers. For example, Morrisons has extended its support to British farmers during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by giving a 5% discount on groceries to thank the nation’s farmers.
