Fresh Street Community was very pleased to be at the first Whitleigh Big Local Community Market of 2024 with fresh and seasonal fruit and vegetables, supplied by Tamar Fresh! People could choose from a wide range of loose produce, including beetroot, turnips, the large cabbages being most popular, or £5 bags; also available fortnightly from Salvation Army typically containing seasonal fruit and vegetables, potatoes, greens, carrots, salad and two kinds of fruit.
It was busy as soon as we set up. A majority of people selected loose items, some opted for the £5 bag, others browsed. It was great to be able to share fresh fruit and vegetables on Whilteigh green and we got to chat to people about their fruit and veg preferences and about the Fresh Street research project, which is exploring how to bring more fruit and vegetables to Whitleigh. We are very grateful to Whitleigh Big Local for setting up the market and giving us a stall.
We will be at the Whitleigh Community Market every month. Next market – Saturday 4th May 10:00am to 1:00pm (first Saturday of every month)
