It was great to return to Four Greens Community Trust for the first of these monthly drop in sessions of 2024. In January we were joined by Natalie Strachan, a registered Dietician and Nutritionist who ran a brilliant, interactive session around nutritional value found in everyday, low cost store cupboard items. There were some surprising facts and it was good to learn more about these very accessible food items, which are a very useful and flexible staple for many people.
Over the past year the Whitleigh Community Food Researchers have worked to programme and promote these breakfast sessions to create informative and welcoming events for Whitleigh residents to engage in conversations about food. Recent highlights include two apple pressing sessions in Autumn 2023, supported by Tess Wilmot of Always Apples, as a way of making use of local apples and inviting people to bring their surplus.
Over the next few months we will host local honey producer, Terry McAuliffe, Holly Park Apiaries and Issata Kallon to talk about her work as a Community Builder and her involvement in supporting and championing diverse food cultures in Plymouth. Free tea, coffee and toast is provided at every breakfast and all are welcome on a drop in basis. 2nd Monday of every month, 9:30AM to 11:00AM, Four Greens Community Trust, PL 5 4DD.
