“What does good food mean to me…to you…to us… to Plymouth?” These are the questions we’ll be exploring together as citizens at Best Food Forward: A People’s Assembly for All, taking place at Plymouth Guildhall.
Why a People’s Assembly?
As your local food partnership, Food Plymouth is on a mission to learn what you think about how our local food system works and what would make it even better. This is an exciting opportunity to bring people from communities across Plymouth together at the same time, in the same space.
Most importantly, the experiences and ideas that you share will help to shape Plymouth’s Food Strategy development, underway soon with Plymouth City Council.

What’s involved?
There’ll be lots of different ways to take part – from break-out discussions to creative art and audio sessions and an interactive exhibition space – that together make a great chance to explore your own and others’ experiences around food, from what and how we’re growing and buying it, to how we’re cooking and eating it.
With activities running between 9.30am and 3.00pm, there’ll naturally be some food and drink to enjoy along the way. Stay for as long or as little as you can but be prepared to share, listen and connect.
So that we know how many people to expect, we’re asking that you register in advance via Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/best-food-forward-plymouth-peoples-assembly-tickets-656635413197.
Part of an organisation or community group working around food issues in the city?
You’re warmly welcome to join our interactive exhibition space, a chance to be able to share what you’re up to and opportunities for people to get involved, as well as to co-create a participatory activity that will form part of our collective learnings on the day. Space is limited, so please email Sophie to register your interest in this as soon as possible. You’re of course very welcome to participate as a citizen yourselves, too!
The Best Food Forward Plymouth People’s Assembly is made possible through a Participatory Processes Development Grant from Sustainable Food Places, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
