The Futures Entrepreneurship Centre would like to invite you to attend a very special event held at the University of Plymouth on 8th November 9.30am -15.00pm on: New Ways of Food Production and Consumption, which is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science Festival.
The ESRC Festival of Social Science offers a fascinating insight into some of the country’s leading social science research and how it influences our social, economic and political lives – both now and in the future. This celebration of the social sciences takes place across the UK – via public debates, conferences, workshops, interactive seminars, film screenings, virtual exhibitions and much more.
Our particular event will showcase innovative social science methods of feeding the planet alongside inspiring examples of business models, which apply alternative solutions to food security, food trade, food education, and health. As it has been long proven by social science, food makes a vital determinant of human health and as such we are affected by the quality of food we consume or by the shortage of it. Yet only recently research has shown that the process of food production, for example, growing plants, has a significant impact on joint human awareness of nature, environment, climate and even each other. That “soft” side to food production and consumption has its market value too, which today contributes to the shift in business modelling and business innovation towards ethics, responsibility, sustainability and community. In our event we would like to illustrate that shift through showcasing good practice and alternative business solutions within the food market.
